Ulaanbaatar (Улаанбаатар), also known as Ulan Bator or simply just UB, is the capital of Mongolia. With a population of around 3 million, it is the largest city in Mongolia, standing as its political, commercial, industrial and cultural hub. For business and pleasure trips alike, knowing and exploring the city properly can help you understand the country’ history and its wonderful people.
Clear and pristine, Lake Huvsgul is one of the finest and most pristine bodies of water in all of Asia. It is also one of the clearest lakes in the world, and is nicknamed Mongolia's "Dark Blue Pearl". The lake is ringed by forests, rocky shores, and the nearby Ikh Uul Mountain, a 10,000 foot tall peak that offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. It is set in a spectacular landscape of Siberian taiga with the Horidal Saridag Mountain Range to the west.
Day 1 – Ulaanbaatar City Tour
Upon arrival at the Chinggis Khaan Airport, you will be greeted by our guide where you will be transferred to the hotel, central of Ulaanbaatar. Free and easy for the rest of the day. In the evening, dinner will be had at a local restaurant together with your personal guide – Mongolian Cuisine, introducing the first flavours of Mongolia.
Next, we take a drive up to The Zaisan Hill – Over there lies The War Memorial Statue, which is located in the south side of the Ulaanbaatar City, right beside the Bogd Khan Mountain which boast the best view of the city and the surrounding hills. At the Bogd Khan Mountain, stand a 15m high golden statue of Buddha beside the hill and a memorial statue on the top of the hill honoring soviet soldiers who fought against foreign invaders in the territory of Mongolia and Manchuria in 1939-1945. At noon, we will head to the Chinggis Khaan Square - State Parliament House* where lunch will be served at a local restaurant.
Day 2- Fly to North Mongolia and drive to Blue pearl Huvsgul Park
Upon arrival at the Chinggis Khaan Airport, fly North of Mongolia for an hour and 30 minutes, you will arrive at Khuvsgul, a small town North of Mongolia. Transfers and arrangements will be made with your English-speaking guide and local driver meeting you at the airport. Khuvsgul Lake is 1,645m above sea level, 136km long and 262m deep. It is the second-most voluminous fresh water lake in Asia and 1.5% of all the fresh water in the world. The water is crystal clear where you can see bottom of lake when you go sailing across. The lake is also surround by deep forest and magnificent mountains.
Lunch will be served at the camp restaurant, which is located beside the lake. Next half of the day will be spend free and easy for you to explore the lake and its surrounding. Feel free to hike at the surrounding hills, or swim in the lake and enjoy the natural beauty of the region. All meals will be local fare served from the camp restaurant and accommodations at your choice of camp, Gers or hotel.
Day 3 - Trekking around the beautiful lake, horse-riding and hiking to the mountains
Experience the nature first hand and soak in the beautiful countryside. Explore the lake and its surroundings through horseback riding, your guide will be bringing you through the countryside, guiding you through the treks and trails, stop for lunch along the trails, explore caves, and hike up the splendid mountains and enjoy the view of the Khvusgul Lake and the wondrous landscape.
Day 4 - Take a boat and Visit the local reindeer family tent and take a photo with the reindeers
After breakfast, embark on the motorboat, navigate through the lake where you will island hop around the four fascinating islands. The morning boat ride will take up the first half of the day and you will arrive back for lunch. After lunch, you will visit a local reindeer breeding family who lives at a summer home off the lake – a Tsaatan traditional house – teepee. Immerse in their culture and if you are interested, take a ride on the Reindeer with local guide.
Day 5 – Fly back to Capital City of Ulaanbaatar (1H half), City Tour (The Gandan Monastry, War Memorial Statue, Chinghis Khan’s Square & Parliament House)
After Breakfast, we will slowly make our way back to Ulaanbaatar City. Our City tour starts with a visit to The Gandan Monastery. This largest and significant sights was built in the mid-19th century and it currently house over 200 monks. The Migjid Janraisag Temple is an important part of Gandan Monastry. The temple house features a 26m high statue of the majestic Migjid Janraisag. After the visit, we will head to Chinggis Khan Square- State Parliament House.
Chinggis Khan’s Square & Parliament House – lies at the heart of the city surrounding by theaters, government buildings and banks. There is a bronze statue of Suhkbaatar astride hsi horse, who is hero of the revolution, declared Mongolia’s final independence from the Chinese. The square now features. Another place of interest is the large bronze statue of Chinggis Khan and his four warriors, seated in the front of Paliament House.
Day 6 – Visit to Winter Palace of Bogd Khan and explore the local shops
Breakfast followed by check-out, we start the day at the Winter Palace of Bogd Khaan Museum. The complex was build between 1893 and 1903 dedicated to the 8th Bogd Javzandamba, the head of Mongolian religion. The palace museum consists of seven Summer Prayer temples and the winter palace. The collections of the museum include unique and valuable objects related to Mongolia’s political, religious, and artistic history from the 17 to early 20th centuries.
Next, we will head back to the main streets of the city centre filled with art and antiquity shops where some time would be catered for shopping, followed by lunch at a local restaurant. The tour of UB ends with our tour guide sending you off to your next destination (depending on the plans – either to the Airport or the next destination)
