A sparsely populated region of endless grassland, Bayan Olgi possesses a stark, untamed beauty. Hunt with ethnic Kazakhs, who honed their expertise through the Kazagks culture and witness the rare art of falconry. Untamed and wild, Bayan Olgi is Mongolia at its rugged best.

Brief Itinerary

Day 1 (2nd October) – Flight to Western Mongolia (Ulgii province)

Arrive into Ulgii province, western region of Mongolia (3 hours flight time from UB). Ninety percent of the population here is Kazakh, Mongolia’s largest ethnic minority. The isolation of the Altai Mountains has preserved the language and traditions of the Kazakhs, who live amongst some of the most spectacular scenery in Mongolia. Upon arrival in Ulgii town of Western Mongolia we will drive to Kazakh families ger camp. Overnight stay at the camp.

Day 2 (3rd October) – Golden Eagle Festival and horse riding

The Golden Eagle Festival is an event that is widely celebrated at this region. We start the day with the attending the opening ceremony of the Golden Eagle festival. The official ceremony commences with the participants parading on horsebacks with their eagles. In the eagle festival, Kazakh eagle hunters celebrate their heritage and compete to catch small preys such as foxes and hares with their specially trained Golden Eagles, showing off the skills both of the birds and their trainers as well as you will able to see best traditional Kazakh dress. A fantastic opportunity for photographers and adventurers alike to see these magnificent birds up close. There are approx. 200 eagle hunters in Ulgii province gathering with eagle hunters from every province in Mongolia. You will be eating authentic traditional Khazak foods for lunch and dinner as well. Overnight stay at the camp.

Day 3 (4th October)– Golden Eagle Festival and visit Kazakh family

The 2nd day of the Golden Eagle Festival. Expect to witness Traditional Kazakh Horse Games where horse riders compete against each other by picking up the “Baton”, usually a skin of a goat or a fox. This game tests the horse-riding skills, strength and agility. Awards are given out at the end of the games to the best eagles with their best trainers. Visit a Kazakh Family, learn the way of how a nomadic family lives, and experience the hospitality of the nomads where dinner will be prepared by them. Overnight stay at the camp.

Accommodation: Ger camp including meals- Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4 – Flight back to Ulaanbaatar city

Transfer to the Airport after breakfast towards your next destination.
