The Elsen Tasarkhai is a part of the Mongol Els Sand Dunes, that continues 80 km long 5 km wide. The nature in this area is really spectacular and great for relaxing and located in Burd soum in Uvurkhangai Aimag (Province) 280 km west of Ulaanbaatar. The area is surrounded by sand dunes, hills covered with rare bushes and a small forest near a river.

Explore the major religious and historical sites – Elsentasarhai (Mini desert) – Erdenezuu Monastery – Ancient Capital Karakorum – Tovhon Monastery –and pass by Tsenher Spa. Wonder at the amazing shifts in natural scenes and its components throughout your journey.
You will be greeted by your guide at your hotel where you will embark your journey towards the central region of Mongolia – Elsehtasarhai, 280KM west of Ulaanbaatar. Visit a nomad family and have lunch with them. Observe the nomadic life and after which, they will guide you with a horseback trek through the Sand Dunes (on a local equestrian). There is also an option to hike over the sand dunes or ride in tow on a humped camel. In the evening, enjoy the traditional Mongolian BBQ cooked with hot stones, followed by an overnight at a Ger tent specially prepared for you.
After breakfast, continue driving towards Karakorum. Karakorum, formerly known as Karakorum, was once a capital of Chinggis Khaan's Great Mongol Empire in the 13th century. After the move of Mongolian capital to Beijing, and the fall of the empire, Karakorum was abandoned and then destroyed by vengeful Manchurian soldiers in 1388. On the way, we will enjoy the beautifully changing landscape from semi desert Gobi into forest steppe. Visit Erdene-Zuu, the oldest monastery, with 108 stupas, built in 1586. Then visit Karakorum museum and see the Great Mongol state period, Stone Age, Bronze Age, Ancient state period halls. Stay overnight at the tourist camp.
After breakfast, journey begins to Tovhon monastery that is built on the highlands (2312m above sea level) deep in the Forest of Shiveet Ulaan Mountain. To reach the monastery, prepare to take a 5km gentle hike up the mountains. Once you reach the Monastery, visit the caves where you meditate. Wonder at the amazing views from the mountain top. The journey continues with a drive to Tsenher, a hot spa ger camp. Dinner is served and enjoy your evening stay at the exotic hot spa camp.
Morning tour starts with a drive to Khorgo Terhiin Tsagaan National Lake Park. It is one of the most beautiful national parks in Mongolia. The fresh water lake which is made up of a crater of an extinct volcano, has rapid current rivers and surrounded by forested mountains. The Khorgo volcano which became extinct some 6000-8000 years ago, is considered to be one of the last of Mongolian volcanoes to become extinct (about 300 volcanoes!). During the journey, we will visit a yak herding nomad family and enjoy lunch with them. Explore the beautiful picturesque landscape filled with wildlife. Dinner will be served at the camp restaurant and enjoy you overnight at the camp.
After breakfast, proceed towards Ulgii Lake (1387m above sea level). Sacred Ugii Lake, home to some of the most charming water birds. Enjoy your relaxing time by this beautiful picturesque lake where you can embark on activities such as hiking, bird watching. Boating and fishing are also available at your own cost.
Free and easy in the morning, enjoy the beautiful nature over breakfast. Transfer to be made back to the city in the late morning or onwards to your next destination.
