Lake Khövsgöl, also referred to as Khövsgöl dalai or Dalai Eej, is the largest fresh water lake in Mongolia by volume and second largest by area. Khövsgöl Nuur is nicknamed "Younger sister of the Sister Lakes".
Clear and pristine, Lake Khuvsgul is one of the finest and most pristine bodies of water in all of Asia. It is also one of the clearest lakes in the world, and is nicknamed Mongolia's "Dark Blue Pearl". The lake is surrounded by forests, rocky shores, and the nearby Ikh Uul Mountain, a 10,000 foot tall peak that offers panoramic views of the countryside. It is set in a spectacular landscape of Siberian taiga with the Horidal Saridag Mountain Range to the west.
Upon arrival at the Chinggis Khaan Airport, fly North of Mongolia for an hour and 30 minutes, you will arrive at Khuvsgul, a small town North of Mongolia. Transfers and arrangements will be made with your English-speaking guide and local driver meeting you at the airport. Khuvsgul Lake is 1,645m above sea level, 136km long and 262m deep. It is the second-most voluminous fresh water lake in Asia and 1.5% of all the fresh water in the world. The water is crystal clear where you can see bottom of lake when you go sailing across. The lake is also surround by deep forest and magnificent mountains.
Lunch will be served at the camp restaurant, which is located beside the lake. Next half of the day will be spend free and easy for you to explore the lake and its surrounding. Feel free to hike at the surrounding hills, or swim in the lake and enjoy the natural beauty of the region. All meals will be local fare served from the camp restaurant and accommodations at your choice of camp, Gers or hotel.
Experience the nature first hand and soak in the beautiful countryside. Explore the lake and its surroundings through horseback riding, your guide will be bringing you through the countryside, guiding you through the treks and trails, stop for lunch along the trails, explore caves, and hike up the splendid mountains and enjoy the view of the Khuvsgul Lake and the wondrous landscape.
After breakfast, embark on the motorboat, navigate through the lake where you will island hop around the four fascinating islands. The morning boat ride will take up the first half of the day and you will arrive back for lunch. After lunch, you will visit a local reindeer breeding family who lives at a summer home off the lake – a Tsaatan traditional house – teepee. Immerse in their culture and if you are interested, take a ride on the Reindeer with local guide.
Enjoy the morning with free and easy activities. Before noon, you will start your journey back to airport of Murun province for your flight back to Ulaanbaatar. On the way to the airport, we will visit Uushig - an ancient Deer Stone Monument – as most clearly depicted deer stones in Mongolia. A deer, a shield, an arch, a knife, a horse, a knife, the moon, the sun and a mirror figured belts were engraved on the stones. Upon arrival into the Chinggis Khan airport, your driver will be waiting for you at the arrival hall for hotel transfer.
